Why are emergency contraceptives taken?

ONE PILL, is taken to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if contraception fails.

ONE PILL prevents or delays ovulation, fertilization, and/or implantation. It's most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex, ideally within 72 hours. It is 95% effective if taken within 24 hours, but its effectiveness decreases over time.

Take within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex. The sooner taken, the better.
